a good attitude to have throughout all this homework:

MOTIVATION
Drawing is a fun thing to do.
Sometimes you can make something look exactly like what it is-
a banana, or a race car, or your girlfriend’s eyes when she is happy.
Sometimes you can make something look even better than what it is
stronger, or shinier, or with the power to fly.
Or you can take something that never existed
and make it real for the whole wide world
just with some pens and pencils. 
 
You can practice all the time
by yourself on old note pads
or bills you don’t plan on paying.
And you can give out the finished scraps
to friends for Christmas and birthdays.
 
Maybe if you draw a picture well enough
you’ll want to show everyone
and one of the people you show will want to take your drawing
and put it on a t-shirt and sell it at a store
you’ve never heard of.
That could be something.
 
Or maybe they will put it behind glass
and protect it with men with guns
and years after you die
people will come for miles and miles
just to look at it
even though they might not even want to look at it
they just know they are supposed to.

But mostly drawing is fun,
and not as serious as all this sounds
the same as throwing a ball around
with your friends on the beach
which is also something you should do more of…
if you don’t already.
