death cab for cutie happened last minute on monday. the most amazing. Ben Gibbard is one of God's greatest creations. Ally and I snuck out of seats into others that weren't around anyone so we could dance to the goodness.
ya'll can watch these if you want but sorry, it's all for me so i remember.
First impression of Ben: he's taller and skinnier than I thought he would be. He is the most beautiful guitarist I've ever seen. Meaning, watching him play his guitar is truly watching an artist at work. It's a very intimate conversation and experience that he is sharing with you. He feels EVERY note and what it means to the song. I could've watched him hours more.
Tonight Ally and I decided to be Ben Gibbard tonight and reinact him at the show to this song. Ally heads over to the piano I grab a golf club. She then points out to me that i had the choice of four guitars and instead I went for the grimy golf club.
This was the next one that really hit me. I knew this song before but hearing him sing it live just brought it to life. This is now one of my favorite Death Cab songs. Each of his songs means something just great.
After that was summer skin with my favorite line, "and we peeled the freckles from our shoulders, our brand new coats all flushed and pink"
Then:
So great. This video doesn't, nor does any but this one especially, give anything close to the feeling of actually being there. Ally and I got into a in depth conversation about the meaning of this song to us. We both see it as a reference to that experience you have when you're just living life and it has lost it's meaning. That burning feeling to me is that experience where you know you need to change something and somehow get back to that happy place you used to be but you don't believe in yourself enough to even see yourself succeeding if you tried.
But it was just so lovely.
Another thing to do before I died checked off my list.

p.s. yoseph emailed me this week. letters from missionaries must be the best thing in the world to receive in the mail. it brings me such happiness. and he sent us his email to his mom. can i just say i love him so much! i love his little object lessons, and his whole paragraph on food. and his use of the phrase most exellent. and that he opened up a new area! and that he is building a go cart and that he spelled it gokart. and that he wrote a song in the middle of his email. and that he has found his reason as a missionary, and that he prefers to be called Elder ´´el bombero´'. Also I stalked Sean's mission blog to find pictures of him. and he's a zone leader and doing great things! also Jon wrote this week and is doing great great things. And Tyler gave his farewell this past week and did amazing. I'm so proud of my babies. and so grateful to have these boys in my life to be such great examples. Also, even if it's selfish, I'm grateful for how they treat me. All I can say is the standard has been set very high by them.
i have been lazy and have been putting on writing 4th of july/24th for a long time. but it's in the process. i just want to say that best friend Tim called me on monday when he finally got some cell service. It made my week. We did some catching up on life and funny stories but mostly we just said how much we missed each other for an hour and a half. you know how it goes, "blah blah blah this funny story happened that i'm telling you about right now and it reminded me of this one time with you...i miss you!" that's about how it went. it was quite lovely.
i smell bread, nomnom.
and i went to a bunch of shows that i'm going to post about, promise.
as well as Saturday at the Jordanelle reservoir.
and have you heard of pandora jam? an app for macs. it is unbelievable.
so yeah...i'll write for real eventually.
